Trebicsko [ Region ]

Trebicsko

South-eastern part of Ceskomoravska vysocina, border of fertile lowlands of south Moravia or frontier between South Bohemia and South Moravia - this is district of Trebic on the map of the Czech Republic. On the area of 1 520 square kilometres we can find nice countryside covered with hills, rich in ponds and woods in northern part of the district. Southern part of the district is flat, with romantic valley of Oslava, Rokytna and Jihlava rivers. The district Trebic hasn´t been a usual destination on tourist maps so far. In fact it offers many varied possibilities for lovers of sport, nature and history. There´san architectonical gem in the area of chateau houses the Museum of Western Moravia where there are permant exhibitions of pipes, folk wooden bethlehems and minerals. In Trebic itself, there´s a very interesting jewish town, now under a large reconstruction, and a jewish cemetery with baroque and renaissance graves and two synagogues. One of them houses an exhibition illustrating the way of life of jews in the region. South of Trebic, in Jaromerice nad Rokytnou, you can find a baroque chateau built on a place where a medieval stronghold was originally found. The chateau´s exposition contains several collections of historical musical instruments, another interesting place is its Anglo-French styled park. Above the river in Namest nad Oslavou there used to be a gothic castle, later rebuilt in a renaissance chateau - now a museum with a large collection of tapestries coming from 16th - 19th century, exhibitions of period furniture, china and paintings. There is also a large library with over than 16 000 books.

One of the oldest cities in Moravia is Jemnice. Part of the town-walls from the 13th century has been preserved so far. A proof of historical origin of Jemnice is the Church of St. Jakub built in the 12th century. On the way between Jihlava and Vienna there´s Moravske Budejovice with a gothical church of St. Jilji and a chateau. In so called "Masne Kramy" there´s an exhibition of no more existing crafts. In the region Trebic there are four museums. Apart from Trebic and Moravske Budejovice, it is worth visiting Pamatnik kralicke tiskarny in Kralice nad Oslavou, where first Czech Bible was printed. It is not only culture that you can find around Trebic but several locations suitable for spots and relaxation too. The largest is the Natural Park of Trebic Region, north of Trebic. You can see interesting isles of stones forming remarkable formations in th terrain here. The biggest isle of these stones is natural preserved area "Szenite skaly". For ages the landscape has been connected with woods - especially oaks around Pucocov, Naramc, Ptacov and Oslavic or spruces near Hostakov and Budikovice. Another thing worth seeing is Oslava and Chvojnice River Valleys reseved area in the east or Natural Park Rokytna in the south. In between there is Mohelenska hadcova prairie with a great many of rare species, both plant and animal. Dalesicka dam on Jihlava river is a great place for sports. On the water area of 480 hectars one can go in for all kinds of water sports or spend a night on the beautiful Hartvikovska beach. Similar possibilities are offered by other camps on the river or pond shores. There are eight camps and eight manmade swimming pools here suitable for summer holiday. Hotels and pensions offer their services to those who want to spend longer time here.
